—This blog began as a side project when we opened Nook Eatery in 2009. In September 2012 we sold Nook, and sadly it now no longer exists. We have a new blog (see A Good Place to Gather). As always we remain inspired by the ingredients we use and the food we cook. This site remains purely as an archive of our three years at Nook Eatery and the recipes I created.

Christmas Baking
As always the two days leading up to Christmas were spent baking. This year I made spekulaas macarons, “from scratch” mince pies (I make my own fruit mince), five spice double chocolate cookies, and iced candy cane sugar cookies. And

We wait eagerly for cherry season every year. Nothing quite like cherry picking to put one in the Christmas mood. Klondyke Farm in Ceres opens their cherry orchards to the public for the entire month of December (except Christmas Day).
